Trapped Below, Trapped Above is a post-metal band celebrated for their atmospheric soundscapes and profound lyrical themes. Formed in 2015 in Chicago, Illinois, the band features frontman and guitarist Lucas Knight, bassist and backing vocalist Mia Hart, drummer Aaron “Axe” Mitchell, and keyboardist/synthesist Grace Donovan. Their music is a powerful blend of heavy riffs, ambient textures, and emotive storytelling, drawing influences from sludge metal, post-rock, and doom metal.
Their debut album, “Subterranean Echoes,” released in 2017, immediately established Trapped Below, Trapped Above as a force in the post-metal scene. With tracks like “Buried Voices” and “Ascendancy,” the album was lauded for its deep emotional resonance and intricate musical arrangements. The band’s follow-up album, “Skyward Descent” (2020), continued to expand their sonic palette, featuring expansive compositions and themes of existential struggle and transcendence.
